Our Work

A scholarship is just the start.
The rest takes all of us.

PH Scholars: Ariana, Patricia, Cristhel, Milagros

Our Why

In rural Peru, women are limited by economic and cultural barriers.

The gap between what society expects of her and what she achieves is exactly where we work.

0%

of women in rural Peru work informally

Informal work offers no benefits, no pension, and no labor protections.1

0%

of women in rural Peru lack independent income

Economic independence unlocks the personal freedom to choose and the agency to act on those choices.1

0%

of women in Peru have a university education

Higher education is the proven path out of poverty—yet fewer than 1 in 6 women ever reaches it.1

The Path Forward

Education and empowerment break the cycle of poverty and gender inequality.

Education empowers women to make decisions in the best interest of themselves and their families. Every additional year of schooling increases a woman's future earnings by up to 20%. 2 When women earn an income, they typically reinvest 90% of that income back into their families. 3 In addition, a woman with a university degree in Peru is 30% less likely to experience intimate partner violence than a woman with only a primary education.1

Global Alignment

Our work advances the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

From eliminating poverty to advancing gender equality and quality education, the work we do in rural Peru directly contributes to a more just and equitable world.

How We Create an Impact

Holistic support for women leaders.

We walk alongside each scholar with psychological care, academic guidance, economic support, and a community that recognizes her potential and strengthens the confident, purpose-driven leader she was always meant to be.

University Scholarship

University comes with real costs—room and board, school fees, books, supplies, and uniforms. Our scholarship covers all of it, removing the financial barriers that would otherwise force a scholar to choose between her education and her basic needs.

Psychosocial Support

Every scholar arrives with a story and the resilience to have made it this far. Our Program Psychologist walks alongside each scholar individually, helping her transform her experiences into sources of strength, build a foundation of confidence, and grow into the woman she has always had the potential to be.

Personal Growth & Leadership Training

We invest in PH Scholars as leaders first. Through workshops in leadership, personal growth, and hands-on community service, they develop the confidence, conviction, and tools to become the agents of change their communities need.

Mentorship

At Peruvian Hearts, every scholar has someone in her corner. Through peer-to-peer mentorship and individual guidance from the PH team, scholars are surrounded by a community that genuinely believes in their potential and invests in their growth.

Academic Advising

Graduation is a milestone, not a destination. Our Academic Advisor works with each scholar to build the discipline, habits, and resilience that will carry her through every step of that journey and into the communities she will one day serve and lead.

Family Engagement

When a scholar's family believes in her education, her outcomes improve significantly. We work with the parents of each scholar through regular workshops to strengthen family bonds and deepen their understanding of what a young woman's education makes possible.

The Impact

Graduation is just the beginning for PH Alumni leaders.

The impact of education and empowerment is demonstrated through the ways the PH Alumni lead in their careers, families, and communities.

0%

of PH Alumni are employed in their field within 6 months

0%

of PH Alumni provide direct economic support to their families

0%

of PH Alumni remain active in community service projects

0%

of PH Alumni work in fields where women remain underrepresented
